The national language of India is Hindi. Although it would take a while to learn the intricacies of such a complex language, you will have the opportunity to pick up some keywords and phrases, which is always a delight to locals.

If you think India is all about curry, you have yet to experience the wide variety of delicacies it has to offer. From silver-covered sweets, yoghurt-based drinks to beat the heat and spices galore, Indian cuisine has something to satisfy everyone’s palate.

Local interaction

There is a saying in India, “Athithi Devo Bhava”, which means “the guest is God”. Indian people go out of their way to please their guests. As the mannerisms are very different from what you may be used to, a cultural shock is probably inevitable; but give it a few days and you’ll soon integrate into the communities with ease.

Shopping in India. Prepare to be mesmerized! The mix of crowds, flowers, altars and trinkets make India’s markets an extraordinary experience in itself. From opulent saris to glittering jewellery, aromatic fresh spices to bobby pins and bangles, Indian markets are the perfect place to indulge your inner shopaholic.

Festivals

Indian festivals are like nothing you’ve experienced before, these festivals take over entire communities with music, chanting, dancing, an abundance of food and more. People of various religions celebrate festivals outside of their spiritual beliefs, such as Hindus attending church at Christmas, Muslims participating in Durga Purga and Christians playing Holi. As one of India’s most fascinating aspects, this cultural melting pot is something you just have to see for yourself.

The best time to visit India is between September and April when the temperatures are cooler. Keep in mind that July signals the start of the monsoon season, which lasts until the beginning of September.
